Physical Abuse & Sexual Misconduct Policy

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to establish preventative measures designed to protect children and adult participants from physical abuse and sexual misconduct as well as to specify courses of action in the case of a suspicion, an allegation, or an actual incident involving physical abuse or sexual misconduct.

Standard of Conduct: All board members, volunteers, and employees, of the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association (MiSCA) must comply with the following “Physical Abuse & Sexual Misconduct Policy.”  Any actions contrary to the policy will result in disciplinary measures up to and including termination.

General Definitions:

“Physical Abuse” includes the intentional physical injury (ranging from minor bruises to severe fractures or death) as a result of punching, beating, kicking, biting, shaking, throwing, stabbing, choking, hitting (with a hand, stick, strap, or other object), burning, or otherwise harming a child or adult.

“Child Sexual Abuse” includes any sexual activity with a child.  The abuser may be an adult, or another child.

“Sexual Activity with a Child” includes any violent or non-violent touching or non-touching that is an exploitation of a child’s vulnerability and powerlessness.  It involves children in sexual behaviors for which they are not personally, socially, and developmentally ready.

“Sexual Misconduct” includes inappropriate behavior relating to or involving a sexual nature.
